This morning I was sitting waiting for the church service to begin. My mind started to wander about the things I had to get done today, this week, and this month. I started to think about all the things I needed to accomplish for my upcoming trip to Washington DC. My husband and I will be playing tourist and finish our vacation by attending the conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). This led me to thinking about all the negative comments on Facebook and Twitter I have been hearing about CPAC. “I would never be caught dead going there.” “All they want is money.” “They won’t allow this group or that group so I am protesting by not going.” BLAH BLAH BLAH.
First off, some of you people sound like idiots. I think you’re complaining just because you can. Maybe you should find something better to complain about, like the trillions of dollars our government is frivolously spending. Better yet, stop whining on Twitter and write your complaints to your congressman, senator and most importantly, your president. Tell them why you disagree with their politics and give them solutions to fix the problem. At some point in time, they will either listen to you or tell you to stop writing. If they tell you to stop writing…..then start writing twice a week.
Secondly, if you don’t like the way the American Conservative Union (ACU) chooses which organizations to embrace, then become a member and CHANGE IT! Not every organization is going to fit all of your beliefs 100%. No matter how hard you try, you cannot make 100% of the people happy 100% of the time. It is just not possible.
For myself, I am very much looking forward to spending a week in my nation’s capital. I have such a love for my country; I know the week will be emotional for me. I am anxious for CPAC. I will have the elite opportunity to listen to brilliant conservative speakers from across this great nation. I know I will not agree with everything that some of these people may say and believe what is best for this country and that is perfectly ok. We are allowed to have our own opinions. I am looking forward to learning from these brilliant minds. I am looking forward to even possibly having some of my opinions changed. I am looking forward to great conversations with old friends and new friends I have yet to meet. I am looking forward to receiving that conservative boost to become a more active and better American; that boost that will help me try to make this amazing country even better.
So please, stop fighting. Stop bickering. Stop treating other conservatives as the enemy. We need to work as a team. We need to consider each other family and yes that means we need to accept “crazy uncle George” that we all raise our eyebrows at. We are conservative. We are American. We have the power to change this country and the world.
